The architecture of the headquarter

It was VBAG’s intention to make a statement with the headquarter. The building should not only be unmistakable from the outside, but should also combine artistic elements. It should create modern conditions for office work, be environmentally friendly in its execution and its operating costs should be low.

An architectural competition was therefore organised with the City of Vienna, to which prestigious, internationally active architectural firms were invited. Carsten Roth, Hamburg, emerged as the clear winner from this competition on the basis of its professional, creative approach, its sensitive vision and its artistic and operational ideas.

Externally, the new headquarters exudes discretion and restraint, while looking like a modern bank inside. The old and new building have grown together in an impressive manner. The glass roof is virtually invisible during the day, while a bright ring seems to float around the building at night, the core of which is the atrium with its spire-like elements.
